The Omaha Fire Department extinguished a working west Omaha house fire Thursday after the homeowner accidentally shot a firework into his garage, the Fire Department said.
The Omaha Fire Department said it was dispatched around 9:50 p.m. Thursday to a home near South 132nd and Pacific Streets for a report of a house fire. When they arrived, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage of a single family wood frame house.
The homeowner told the Fire Department everyone, including pets, had made it out of the house.
Omaha firefighters contained the fire to the garage and secured the house, which had interior smoke damage. The Fire Department had the fire under control at 11:05 p.m.
The homeowner said they were shooting off fireworks near the street when one tipped over and shot into the garage, according to the Fire Department. The owner tried to extinguish the fire and called 911.

The Fire Department determined the cause of the fire to be accidental.
