As communities across the country grapple with rising fuel costs, air pollution and the growing impacts of global warming, one solution is becoming increasingly clear; the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
The recent article on the Virginia Virtual Academy was unfair to the school and unfair to the many parents and families across the state of Virginia that continue to choose to enjoy the flexibility VAVA offers. It would have provided a more accurate representation if you would have spoken to…
Mr. Joe Morrissey’s opinion piece in the RTD of March 31 cries out for negative criticism. He does explain the good reasons why good people should never support gerrymandering. Indeed, he is correct, except he never mentions that President Trump’s push for gerrymandering in Texas and elsewhe…
It is a rare thing when I agree with Joe Morrissey on anything (this may be a first). As an Independent voter for over 50 years, his extreme views and actions over those years have not resonated well with me. However, his op-ed in the RTD of March 31 is a keeper. The current Virginia “specia…
The Times-Dispatch article about the Virginia Virtual Academy left out every family who loves the school and families that decided VAVA was the right place for their student. I think it is really important that readers know there are lots of families like mine that picked VAVA because it is …
Shame on Congress — both Democrats and Republicans — for holding hostage federal workers again, this time the TSA when we need them the most due to our security concerns. This action has also crippled airlines and their passengers. Also, many TSA agents have resigned as a result of having no…
To the editor: Thank you for presenting balanced information on the redistricting referendum. Voters now need to be aware of the gaslighting.
I agree with the Republican leaders when they describe partisan gerrymandering as being undemocratic and un-American. However, I find it hypocritical when they fail to mention that it was Donald Trump who called on states to redistrict mid-decade to give an advantage to their majority party.
Hello, my name is Margaux, and I am 10 years old. Recently, I heard a news story that was about the Iran war, and more specifically how a school was bombed. This action is unacceptable and killed over 100 innocent elementary school kids (Richmond Times-Dispatch). Think about what those lives could have been. Think about yourself and your school. Imagine that happening to you, and then no one caring about it. The country who bombed it, thinking it was a military base, not apologizing or showing remorse.
I have recently seen former President Obama telling Virginians about having fair elections and having the people involved with selecting representatives, not politicians. Now, our “moderate” Governor has told us that we need fairness in our elections and has signed on to the April redistricting gerrymandering plan.
As a Richmond resident, I’m watching the General Assembly’s ongoing budget and tax incentive debates with growing concern. While lawmakers are rightly focused on balancing fiscal priorities, we can’t lose sight of our long-term responsibility: protecting Virginians from pollution and climate change. Data centers, the state’s fastest-growing energy consumers, need to run on clean energy.
As a long-term resident of Fulton Hill, I have recently become aware of the impact of the current effort to rezone the city on my neighborhood and that of other neighborhoods nearby.
Vaccines are one of the greatest advances in public health in all human history. Who knows how many lives have been saved by polio, tetanus, whooping cough, tuberculosis, smallpox, measles, and more recently, COVID vaccines? Yet because of a few gullible people and charlatans who peddle unverified and unscientific theories, we are abandoning our next generation to the ravages of once-eradicated diseases.
Regarding Tim Murphy's letter to the editor Feb. 28. I agree with everything you said! Except for the part "Epstein files -- enough said."
In 1985 an epic bunch of musicians collaborated and recorded a hit single to relieve suffering from a famine in Ethiopia. Those don't know the song should cue up "We Are the World" on YouTube and watch the video of all these folks from the past (like Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, Kenny Rogers, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Willie Nelson, Cyndi Lauper, Ray Charles). It will give you goosebumps.
Water is essential to life – we drink it, cook with it, bathe ourselves and our kids with it and much more. That’s why our District 54 must act now to improve our water quality. Why, then, did our Iowa House representative, Josh Meggers, kill a Republican-introduced bill that would support ways to fix our water quality?
Another reminder not to forget our friends in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and all the land of milk and honey was given to Abraham and Sarah's side of the family. No matter how we spin it, it belongs to Israel. Israel is not going anywhere. All Israel wants is to live in peace, quiet, and security. Is this to much to ask of the world? Let Israel have their Shabbat in peace!
The gates at the Tyson plant in Lexington are locked. The processing lines are silent, and the pain for 3,200 workers — and the entire community of 11,000 — has truly begun.
To old and new residents of Lexington alike, we extend our sorrow for what has happened — again — to your present and our former community. All three of our children were well educated at Lexington Public Schools and have gone on to do great things. They had great experiences in Lex where, f…
Like everyone in Lexington, we’ve been watching the news about the Tyson plant closure closely. It’s a major shift for our community, and it’s understandable that people feel uncertain. But I want everyone to hear this clearly: The people of Lexington are going to be OK. This is a strong, re…
Recently a letter was written by Matt Williams of Gothenburg touting Dawson Public Power District CEO Gwen Kautz as the ideal candidate for the Nebraska Public Power District 6. It was a nice gesture to give credit to Kautz, who has held the DPPD CEO post since 2012. If you know who Matt Wil…

Long gone are the days where impulse buying meant grabbing an unplanned candy bar or magazine in the checkout line. Now, social media makes it quick and easy for us to purchase just about anything with the click of a button, whether or not it’s in the budget. And for some Americans, it’s hurting them...
Black Friday is fast approaching, and shoppers are gearing up. The National Retail Federation expects more than 183 million people to shop over the weekend spanning Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday this year. But fraudsters are preparing for Black Friday too, looking for opportunities to steal your money or personal information. Before you dive into holiday...
I am writing to express my enthusiastic support for Gwen Kautz in her candidacy for the Nebraska Public Power District, Subdivision 6. Gwen’s candidacy is exciting news for those of us who value leadership grounded in experience, integrity and a deep commitment to the principles of public power.
Senator responds to column on demolition program
Our state continues to hemorrhage our youth. For some reason they don’t find this state attractive. Our government tries so hard to make it that way.
While Attorney General Hilgers has shown great skill at legislating on behalf of executive priorities, I prefer my elected representative — state senators — to do the lawmaking.
The new year is beginning, so it is time to turn the page. And, turning that new page should include a change in leadership in the 3rd Congressional District in Nebraska, i.e., replace Rep. Adrian Smith.
Red Way’s mismanagement of funds was a disappointment. The innovation that the Lincoln Airport leadership has demonstrated is a success.
Thank you Patty Pansing Brooks for your poem ("The slight before Christmas," Dec. 29). What a clever way to shine the light on the dissimulation of that one line by Gov. Jim Pillen: "I don't believe in welfare."
Gov. Jim Pillen has proposed raising the sales tax by 2 cents, which would make Nebraska's sales tax the highest in the nation. Although the details have not been released, the governor's office suggests this would drop the property tax from the highest in the nation to 27th.
