ATHENS — Tourists from the U.S. are spending the most money per head on their trips to Greece — more than British, French, German and Italian visitors, figures from the Greek central bank show.
According to August data from the Bank of Greece for the first half of 2026 and parsed by the Greek financial press, tourists from the U.S. spent an average of around €1,213 per person per trip to Greece — well ahead of British visitors, who spent around €702.
They were followed by French tourists at around €682, Italians at around €646 and Germans at around €625.
At the same time, German tourists continue to generate the highest overall tourism revenue for Greece owing to the sheer number of arrivals.
Total tourism revenue in the first half of the year came to around €8.8 billion, up 14.8% on the same period last year, the Bank of Greece said.

Some 2.04 million Germans visited Greece in the first half of 2026, a rise of 10.4%, along with 1.68 million British tourists, also up 10.4%. The number of U.S. visitors fell by 5.4% to 656,700.
