Lexington’s Dairy Queen was filled Thursday evening as individuals came together for a fundraiser benefiting the Lexington Early Learning Academy.
Tracy Naylor, the director of ELA, said the event was proposed by Maria Rios, the fundraising coordinator at the Dairy Queen. The objective was to raise funds for ELA’s upcoming St. Jude Trike-A-Thon in early May. This event not only promotes bicycle and tricycle safety but also raises money for childhood cancer research.
Naylor expressed gratitude for the support received from various organizations leading up to the fundraiser. The Lexington Chamber of Commerce played a role in promoting the event to draw a big crowd.
Despite the enthusiasm surrounding the event, Naylor acknowledged a challenge faced in securing sufficient volunteer staff. However, some volunteers did step up by offering their time and assistance. Their efforts were crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of the fundraiser, including the delivery of orders to customers inside the restaurant and to the drive-thru.

In consideration of safety concerns, Naylor decided not to involve child volunteers.
Besides Rios and Naylor, some of the volunteers included Lexington ELA teachers Amanda Born and Kristie Converse. Naylor said around 10% of the proceeds from Thursday night would go to ELA’s fundraiser.
For those unable to attend the event but keen on supporting ELA’s future endeavors, Naylor extended an invitation to contribute to the organization’s activity funds. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference in supporting ELA’s initiatives and programs aimed at nurturing young minds.
Highlighting the importance of community involvement, Naylor encouraged families to participate in the upcoming Trike-A-Thon. Beyond the fundraising aspect, the event serves as an opportunity to instill compassion in children and empower them to realize the positive impact they can make by supporting causes like St. Jude.
