Demolition began last year on buildings damaged or destroyed by the 2019 flooding at Offutt Air Force Base. The post-flood reconstruction is expected to be finished by 2027. The 2024 National Defense Authorization Act, passed by Congress this week, includes an additional $57.5 million for replacement of flood-damaged facilities.
An artist’s rendering of the Air Force’s next-generation LGM-35A Sentinel ICBM, currently in development to replace the Minuteman III missiles that have comprised the land leg of the U.S. nuclear arsenal since 1970. Provisions of the defense policy bill are designed to speed up production and delivery of the new missiles, slated for deployment in the 2030s.
