Hot and humid conditions are expected to continue throughout the Fourth of July weekend, with a possibility thunderstorms that could disrupt holiday celebrations.
Clint Aegerter, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Valley, said on and off storm chances will linger in Omaha, similar to what the city has seen over the last week.
“Friday night it looks like some (storm) chances probably could move in more during the evening, like after 7 p.m., and then last through overnight,” Aegerter said. “For Saturday, the Fourth itself, again there could be some spotty showers around during the day, but higher chances again are during the evening hours.”
The forecast calls for a high on Friday around 92 and Saturday for a high of 89 in Omaha, but humidity will push the heat index into the mid 90s.
Aegerter said that this weather could affect fireworks and other outdoor activities on Independence Day weekend.

“There could be some strong to severe storms in there, so it does look like a day you’d want to keep your eye on,” Aegerter said.
Some outdoor events in Omaha are taking precautions with the forecast and have moved events indoors. The Nebraska Wind Symphony relocated their outdoor Capitol District concert Friday night to UNO’s Strauss Performing Arts Center.
The weather is constantly changing. Aegerter said, based on recent trends, that stormy weather over the weekend could end up blowing just a bit south of Omaha.
“We’ll see if that holds true for the next day or two,” Aegerter said. “But for the evening hours we have a 40 percent chance of showers and storms.”
