It's a little bit of nostalgia that comes with Wednesday's announcement on the new station for Nebraska sports radio broadcasts.
Walnut Media acquired Omaha’s AM 590 signal, bringing back the WOW call letters. The station is the new Omaha-area home for Husker programming.
The station will carry game day coverage for football, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, baseball and the "Sports Nightly" show.
In February 2026, then-owner SummitMedia took 590 (KXSP) off the air after the property housing its transmitter and tower were sold.
After a successful petition to the Federal Communications Commission, Walnut Media restored the well-known call letters to the frequency.
WOW, originally launched by Woodmen of the World, was used on 590 from 1926 until 1999. Journal Broadcast Group rebranded the station as KOMJ, marking a retirement of the WOW identity.
