Paul Pack C-H sports editor LEXINGTON, Neb. – The Lexington booster club hosted the annual spring sports awards ceremony May 12. Athletes, family and friends gathered in the schools east gym, for an evening of awards, sharing season highlights, and ice cream sundaes. Jess McHargue, the boys soccer coach, discussed the up and down season the team had. Keith Allen, the girls soccer team, talked about the hard work the team put in this season, and how they will be losing 11 seniors. Allen also noted that keeper Makenzie Hammond, had broken the Class B career saves record, this her senior year. Tennis coach Ernie French praised the endurance of his squad, and detailed how many hours the athletes were on the court this past two weeks. He went on to highlight the younger team members stepping up and playing hard, while sending off the seniors of the team with his gratitude for being the role models of hard work the younger players needed. Coaches from the six different spring sports teams presented the certificates of participation, GNAC all academic team awards, along with this seasons letter winners. Special awards included two given out by Amber Burson for male and female outstanding lifters from the powerlifting team; Sandra Gomez and Oscar Villatoro were named this years award winners. Paola Briones name was added to the plaque for the NSAA Believers and Achievers award. The Lloyd Ramsey award went to Odaliz Santoyo and Alam Alvarez was presented with the Kenneth Mingus Outstanding Athlete-Scholar awards. The Certificate of Spirit was presented to former teacher, and long time Lexington supporter, Frances Ellis. For the full listing of all awards from the evening, please see lexch.com.
