Job duties
This is work as an entry-level to semi-skilled building laborer or tradesperson in the performance of:
- Routine grounds maintenance
- Custodial, janitorial, or housekeeping work
- Apprentice-level facility maintenance activities
- Labor-intensive work that requires close to general supervision in the areas of custodial and housekeeping work
- Uncomplicated building repair and maintenance, or groundskeeping work
- Tasks where positions at this level receive verbal instruction to properly accomplish or organize work
- Decision-making authority that is limited to selection of tools or equipment and determining the organization and sequence of separate work tasks and duties as assigned
- Assisting maintenance staff with routine building and grounds maintenance tasks
Maintenance skills to learn
Learn basic maintenance skills including:
- Light plumbing repairs
- Basic electrical troubleshooting
- Painting and drywall repair
- HVAC filter replacement
Preventative maintenance and safety
Preventative maintenance procedures include:
- Assisting with facility inspections and work order completion
- Helping move equipment, furniture, and exhibit materials as needed
- Safe operation of hand tools and basic maintenance equipment
- Identifying and reporting facility maintenance concerns or safety hazards promptly
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification
