An analysis by GeoComply Solutions for The World-Herald shows mobile sports betting activity at the rural interchange of Interstate 680 and 130th Street in Iowa. The company tallied 2,300 geolocation checks involving 100 unique player accounts at the interchange on a single Saturday, Nov. 18. Geolocation checks are recorded at various stages of a user engaging with a legal sportsbook.
Joe Anania of Omaha uses a smartphone to access a sports-betting app in the parking lot of a Casey’s convenience store at 35th Street and West Broadway in Council Bluffs recently. By crossing the river, Anania can legally place a bet, avoiding the geofencing that prohibits mobile sports betting in Nebraska.
