Lexington’s City Council met for a brief but productive meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 12, in the council chambers at Lexington City Hall.
No citizens showed up to speak during public comment time and the council jumped right into the night’s agenda, which included the approval of an electric shop update, appointment of a new planning commissioner and the approval of airport levy authority.
City Manager Joe Pepplitsch outlined a plan for the city electric shop, titled the NPPD Office Addition. The proposed addition would add 1,500 square feet of office space to the city’s electric building. Phase two of the plan would include updating the exterior of the building, which Pepplitsch said “it’s past time” for.
These updates would include cleaning ditches, landscaping, adding parking and other necessary elements to “make it look like a nice office building,” Pepplitsch said.

The council considered the plans and specifications presented by Pepplitsch and approved authorization of solicitation of bids for the project.
Pam Baruth was appointed to the planning commission board to fulfill the term vacated by the sudden exit of Jeremy Kaiser. Kaiser resigned, leaving approximately a year left unfilled of his term. The City Council voted and approved Baruth to step in and take over Kaiser’s remaining term.
The annual consideration of allocating levy authority to the Lexington Airport Authority was brought before the council at the Aug. 12 meeting. Pepplitsch stated that the City of Lexington is required to allocate part of its levy authority each year to the airport for tax purposes. The council approved the request without debate.
In other business, Mayor John Fagot was authorized to sign the Municipal Annual Certification of Program Compliance and the council voted to suspend the rules regarding Ordinance No. 2485. The zoning ordinance was on its second reading and by suspending the rules the council performed both the second and final reading in the same session, passing the ordinance updates.
