The Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual fundraiser for the Blanche Senior Scholarship on Thursday, Aug. 20.
Proceeds from the event will support the Blanche Senior Scholarship. The fundraiser will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. at Mac’s Creek Winery and Brewery.
Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce office, at the door or through Eventbrite at eventbrite.com/e/wine-wings-beer-brats-tickets-1993840207734?aff=ebdssbdestsearch.
The scholarship, named in honor of Blanche Senior, awards recipients up to $1,000 to attend the college of their choice.
Senior began working at the Lexington Chamber of Commerce in 1960 after immigrating to the United States from England in 1948. She started as a part-time employee before becoming a full-time secretary and eventually advancing to director of the chamber.

According to the Lexington Public Schools scholarship website, Senior was known as the “welcome wagon” for people who came to Lexington during her time with the chamber. Her love for the community inspired the scholarship established in her honor.
Applicants for the Blanche Senior Scholarship are judged on their academic performance and community involvement, as well as their responses to two preselected questions regarding references and their current place of employment.
Applicants must have paid work experience while in high school to be eligible for the scholarship. The up to $1,000 recipients receive is sent to the college of their choice after they provide proof of first-semester grades and a second-semester class schedule.
The application deadline for this year's scholarship was Feb. 27, but the Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce will raise money for the scholarship program through its Wings and Wine, Beer and Brats fundraiser.
Attendees can enjoy food, drinks and live music by Spencer Hansen.
