A new national NBC News poll has found that Democrats hold a significant lead in the race for control of Congress, just days ahead of the midterm elections. Registered US voters favor a Democratic-controlled Congress by a seven-point margin, with Democrats leading Republicans 52% to 45%, according to the poll. The survey also showed President Donald Trump’s disapproval rating has climbed to 60%, marking a record high for NBC News polls across both of his terms. Nearly two-thirds of voters want a change in the direction Trump has been leading the country, with 50% calling for a “great deal” of change. For the first time in NBC News polling history, more voters express dissatisfaction with their personal finances (51%) than satisfaction (49%). The poll revealed that 64% of voters, including one-third of Trump supporters, say he has fallen short of their expectations as president. Registered voters also expressed high enthusiasm for voting in the midterms, with 70% ranking their interest as a 9 or 10 on a 10-point scale. However, the poll suggests the Democrats' advantage may reflect dissatisfaction with Republicans rather than strong support for their own party, which remains unpopular among voters. According to the poll, around half of voters view both parties negatively ahead of the midterm elections.
