The father of Nebraska's first coronavirus patient says his daughter has suffered with respiratory issues her whole life and simply seemed to exhibit her usual symptoms. "Mostly, I just want people to know it wasn’t a deliberate, reckless thing that she was doing," he said. "If she was here right now coughing and sneezing, it wouldn’t bother at all ... it was just her normal irritations."
The student is believed to have attended two basketball games during the high school girls state basketball tournament in Lincoln on March 5, according to a letter posted on the Crofton Community Schools website.
The calls list the Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy as the number behind the call, but hospital officials say those calls are spoofed.
Pottawattamie County Planning Director Matt Wyant said an employee at Panera Bread in Council Bluffs has been tested as a "presumptive positive" for the disease, also known as COVID-19. The county is waiting on a full positive confirmation from the CDC.
Colleges are considering how best to address the growing coronavirus outbreak. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Nebraska at Omaha and others are considering the possibility of providing all classes online.
The second case of community spread is a 46-year-old man who hasn't traveled recently or come into contact with a known carrier of the virus.
