Russell Brand: From Hollywood Fame To Criminal Conviction
Actor and comedian Russell Brand has faced a dramatic fall from grace following years of serious allegations of sexual misconduct, including rape and sexual assault. On November 5, 2026, Brand was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault involving four women. He was acquitted of two other rape charges and one count of attempted indecent assault. The verdict followed a trial involving allegations from six women, relating to incidents between 1999 and 2009. But the allegations that led to his conviction are not the only ones Brand has faced. Here's a timeline of the allegations that brought his past under renewed scrutiny. In 2006, while Brand was a BBC radio presenter and host of ‘Big Brother’s Big Mouth’, a woman claimed he sexually assaulted her during a three-month relationship, when she was 16 and still at school. He was 30 at the time. In an interview with the Sunday Times, the woman said that Brand referred to her as “the child,” and was sexually and emotionally abusive towards her. She also claimed that Brand was very controlling, instructing her to save his name in her phone as “Carly” and giving her scripts on how to lie to her parents. The woman described the relationship as “isolating.” Another former girlfriend, Jordan Martin, alleged that Brand sexually assaulted her and was physically and emotionally abusive during their six-month relationship in 2007. Martin made the allegations in a book published in 2014, and claimed that Brand assaulted her in a hotel in Manchester, shortly after finding out that she had been speaking to her ex-boyfriend. Another woman came forward with allegations against Brand, dating back to 2012. The woman alleged that Brand sexually assaulted her in his Los Angeles home in July of that year. She told the Sunday Times that Brand raped her after she refused to join him in a sexual activity with a “friend” of his. Afterwards, he briefly blocked the door to prevent her from leaving. Following the incident, Brand sent her several text messages apologizing for what happened, describing his behavior as “crazy and selfish.” A fourth woman, who met Brand at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting before going on to work together, claims he sexually assaulted her in his home in Los Angeles. The woman told the Sunday Times that Brand tried to kiss her and forcibly remove her clothes while she screamed at him to stop. She claimed that Brand then shouted at her, telling her she was fired. According to the woman, Brand later threatened her with legal action if she came forward with the allegation. The allegations were made public in 2023 as part of a joint investigation by the Sunday Times, the Times, and Channel 4. In response, Brand said, “Amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.” In a recent appearance on ‘The Megyn Kelly Show,’ Brand admitted to engaging in sex with a 16-year-old when he was 30, saying: “The plain fact of it is… the age of consent is 16.”
