US President Donald Trump has said that Americans’ financial situations are not on his mind “even a little bit” during talks with Iran. Speaking on the White House Lawn, Trump told reporters that the “only thing that matters” when talking about Iran is that “They don’t have a nuclear weapon.” The president added, “I don’t think about anybody,” reiterating that his biggest concern is Iran’s possession of nuclear weapons. Trump was questioned by reporters about the economic impact of the war, which has reportedly driven the US inflation rate to 3.8%, the highest it has been in three years. The president pushed back, claiming that the US stock market is “at an all-time high”, adding that “every American understands.” Trump rejected Iran’s latest peace proposal, saying that the ongoing ceasefire is “on life support.” The conflict has had a significant impact on fuel prices, as the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed to shipping. The national average price of unleaded fuel now stands at $4.50 per gallon, with diesel priced at $5.64 per gallon. Other everyday living costs have also seen a surge, with food costs rising to 3.8% and energy services, including electricity, increasing to 5.4%.
