Birth of baby elephant at Omaha's zoo brings herd's size to nine

Some lucky guests joined in the celebration for one of the latest babies born at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium — a female elephant.

Jayei, the matriarch of the African elephant herd at about 30 years old, gave birth at 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

After scary start, Hope the giraffe calf has become an Omaha zoo favorite

Hope, a 2-month-old giraffe, with her "adopted mom," Betty, at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium in Omaha on Thursday, May 25, 2023.

Hope had already gone into the chute for her daily weigh-in, and when the little giraffe saw the stuffed green frog and bottle at the side of her enclosure, she knew it was feeding time.

A little drool ran down her face as she quickly sucked up the 2-liter bottle of goat’s milk.
