At one point Tuesday night, just 20 votes separated Vargas and Bacon. But Bacon later began to open up his lead as more votes were counted from Sarpy and Saunders counties.
Firefighters from Maxwell and Brady responded to the scene that was originally reported to be a grass fire. The Nebraska State Patrol and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office were on scene.
The outcome of another tightly contested legislative race got a little clearer Friday, once all the early ballots were counted in Douglas County.
Republicans maintained their grasp on Nebraska's three congressional seats, despite Democrats in two of those races outraising their GOP opponents in the final months before Election Day.Â
Nebraska’s turnout for the 2022 midterms was 54.8%, according to unofficial results updated Friday. This represents a small dip from 2018, which was uncommonly high at 58%.
Republican Rep. Mike Flood expressed relief Tuesday that "the Dr. Fauci Show is finally over" as the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases prepares to step down.
Jason Jackson will continue to be director of the Nebraska Department of Administrative Services in the Pillen administration.Â
