KEYSVILLE – Charles Randolph "Randy" Slayton, 75, died unexpectedly August 15, 2026, at his home surrounded by family members and following a long and courageous battle to regain his health.
Martha Carter Vecchiolla, 70, of Midlothian, Virginia, was born December 20, 1955 and passed away on August 16, 2026 after bravely battling lung cancer for the past year. She fought like "the Storm" that she was, right until the end.
Henry passed away peacefully in New Bern, NC. Raised in Pulaski, VA, Henry was a loved teacher and principal for over 47 years. Working with children was what he loved. Henry is survived by his wife Gail, sons John (Stacy) and Temple (Jennifer), five grandchildren, and sister Susan (George). Born in Richmond on April 13, 1956, he spent his youth loving the outdoors, playing sports, and enjoying music. One of the memorable milestones of his early life came in 1968, when he played outfield in the Little League World Series, representing the United States and Tuckahoe Little League, against Japan.

Alvin "Sonny" Plotkin, of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on July 14, 2026. He was born on October 12, 1924, in Richmond, Virginia, to Nathan and Frances Plotkin. A proud veteran of World War II, Sonny served in the Navy with distinction and returned home as a decorated hero and Purple Heart recipient. In 1947, he met and married the love of his life, Edith Gerson. Together they built a life filled with love and cherished memories before retiring to Florida in 1975. Sonny was predeceased by his beloved wife Edith, his brother Morton, and his sister Leah. He is survived by his son Nathan Plotkin of Lake Helen, Florida; his daughter Robin Freedman (Ira) of Ormond Beach, Florida; two grandchildren, Brian Freedman (Amber) of Palm Coast, Florida, and Sara Ramirez (Hunter) of Deland, Florida; as well as four great-grandchildren: Leia, Luke, Weston, and Lillian. Alvin Sonny PLotkin was laid to rest in Mt. Sinai Cemetery in Daytona Beach, Fl., with full Military Honors by the Navy Honor Guard befitting the last of "The Famous Fifteen". RIP Sailor

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Cheryl Smith; children Jason (Courtney) and Jennifer; stepson Mickey Wright (Tara); sister Dianne Callahan (Steve); 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild in heaven.
A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Ronnie Soffee will be held Saturday, August 22 from 2 to 4 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 1000 Blanton Avenue. Come as you are, when you can.

Mary Katherine "Kate" Sutton-Johnson, 46, died at her home in Minneapolis, Minnesota surrounded by love, on July 28, 2026, after a courageous two year battle with colon cancer. Born July 22, 1980 in Richmond, Virginia, she was a 1998 graduate of Midlothian High School, where she was fortunate enough to be taught by drama teacher Katherine Baugher and art teacher Buddy Terrell, who inspired her to attend the North Carolina School of the Arts, where she majored in scenic design. She moved to Minneapolis, working at the Guthrie Theater, where she met her husband, Grant. While Grant decided to form his own company, Industrial Artisans, Kate decided to free-lance with her own design skills, primarily creating sets for theatrical productions.
