Whether you are a Fortune 500 executive or a founder with grand aspirations that have yet to be realized, you have a personal brand. Are you maximizing it on social media?
An upcoming webinar — Social Media Branding for Executives — from one the leading minds in executive coaching aims to answer that question.
Taking place Oct. 26, the webinar will be led by Michael King, a visionary in the field of executive coaching and founder of Nebraska-based Teams.Coach.
“Over the course of working with Fortune 500 executives, entrepreneurs and founders, the one thing everyone has in common is a tension,” King said. “You have the brand of your organization that you represent, but you also have this responsibility to represent your own personal brand. The more valuable your personal brand is, the more value you bring to the organization you are serving.”
Telling your story
In his work with leaders across a vast spectrum of industries, King has learned that an understanding of the importance of an organizational narrative is well-grasped. An individual’s brand, however, is often overlooked.
“We have developed an incredibly simple playbook that takes some of the anxiety and execution problems that I’ve seen my clients exhibit about honing their personal brand and puts them to rest,” King said. “There are so many thriving leaders who show up for their organization day after day. For many of those people when it comes to managing their own personal brands, it can seem overwhelming. Those people may not know where to start. This event offers that launching pad to build your brand in the social space.”
The webinar will offer actionable strategies to build a personal brand, such as a suggested posting schedule and which types of content are best suited for which platforms. The webinar is free, and features insight from Jen Gruber, a marketing and strategy expert, with extensive experience in media.
Controlling your narrative
One common misconception King has seen from leaders is that their narrative doesn’t need to be told.
“Whether you like it or not, everybody is known for something,” King said. “When you understand that and understand the responsibility of that you are either filling your space and how you are making an impact intentionally or you are not putting in the effort at all. You have to control the narrative about what you are doing, the way you offer solutions and make your organization go.
Managing one’s brand can be outsourced, but that can be costly and is not an approach that guarantees results. King said nobody understands your personal brand and how it dovetails with your career and life aspirations better than you.
“Having a clear personal brand strategy is so important. You are going to be known for something. But you have to ask yourself, are you reaching the level of impact you want? Are you attaining the goals you want to accomplish in your life? And are you strategically being a leader and maximizing your impact?”
The webinar is instructive on the finer points of each platform and leans heavily on King’s proven TEAMS Methodology for personal brand success. In the end, the advice for building a personal brand is less complicated than people think, King said.
“The way we create social media content and ensuring there’s a clear strategy to it, doesn’t have to be exhausting,” King said. “It can be incredibly simple. You don’t have to be on seven different platforms. It’s about finding the social media vehicles that work best for you and your audience and maximizing them. We’re going to offer direction on how to do that.”
