Riley Flesch serves 11 aces in Gothenburg’s Tuesday sweep of Alma
The Gothenburg Swedes held on to win their Tuesday away game in a sweep over Alma.
Gothenburg won 25-20, 25-20 and 25-23.
Junior outside hitter Lauren Mroczek led the Swedes with 13 kills and one ace.
Sophomore setter Riley Flesch put over 11 aces and one kill for the Swedes.
Zoe Beveridge had nine kills and three aces, and Grace Evert had seven kills and one ace for Gothenburg.
Beveridge had two kills in the Swedes 5-0 run to start the first set.
Mroczek’s second kill of the first set put Gothenburg up 10-2.
Down the stretch, Gothenburg led 18-10 off Alma’s attack error.
Alma put together a sequence of a kill, an ace and a block to pull behind 19-14, and a Gothenburg error followed.
The Cardinals closed the gap to four, forcing a Swede timeout.
Mroczek’s sixth kill of the set put the Swedes up 22-19.
Gothenburg reached set point off Mroczek’s seventh kill, and an Alma attack error won the match 25-20 for the Swedes.
Flesch had two aces in the Swedes’ 4-0 run to start the second set.
The Swedes led by as much as five early after a 4-1 run, but Alma turned in a 4-0 run to pull behind 8-7 after back-to-back kills.
In the back stretch, both teams traded serve errors until an Alma block tied the set at 17.
An Alma ace tied the set at 20 before Gothenburg finished off the set with a 5-0 run, winning 25-20 off a Flesch ace.
Flesch knocked down three aces, giving the Swedes a 3-0 lead in the third set.
Back-to-back errors by Alma gave Gothenburg a 12-7 lead down the stretch.
Alma used a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the night at 13-12.
Gothenburg jumped back to a three-point lead after an Alma attack error.
Late in the third, Alma used a 4-1 run off a Swede error to tie the set at 20.
Alma put down two kills for a tie at 22 before taking the lead 23-22 off a Swede attack error.
Gothenburg called their final timeout. Out of the break, Evert tied the match at 23 after her sixth kill of the night.

Flesch won the match for the Swedes with her 11th ace, giving Gothenburg the 25-23 sweep win.
THURSDAY GAME
Gothenburg was plagued with 20 serve errors in their first loss of the season, dropping the home matchup in four sets to Broken Bow.
The Swedes lost the first match 25-22, won the second set 25-23 and dropped the last two sets 26-24 and 25-23.
Evert had 16 kills in the Swedes’ loss, Beveridge had 11 and Mroczek had nine.
Broken Bow had 29 team kills and eight aces.
Back-to-back errors kicked off the night before an Evert kill gave the Swedes a 2-1 lead.
Gothenburg led 10-9 after a kill by Beveridge, but Broken Bow took off on a 4-0 run to regain the lead 13-10.
An Evert kill kicked off a 4-0 Swede run to lead 15-13, but their own error pull the Indians within one.
Three Swede kills pushed them ahead 18-15, but down the stretch a Broken Bow block followed by a kill put the Indians up 21-20.
The Indians took over from there, reaching set point off a kill 24-21.
A Gothenburg serve error awarded the Indians the first set win.
Gothenburg jumped out to a 4-0 start in the second set off an Evert kill.
Broken Bow used a 6-1 off a Swede error to gain the lead 7-5.
The teams traded points down the stretch before back-to-back hitting errors put Gothenburg up 19-16.
A Mroczek kill put the Swedes up 23-18 before Gothenburg’s trouble started.
The Swedes’ attack error was followed by three straight Broken Bow kills, pulling the Indians behind 24-23.
Gothenburg got lucky, and a Broken Bow serve error gave the Swedes a 25-23 second set win.
The third set started with a 3-0 Gothenburg lead. An Evert ace pushed Gothenburg’s lead to 8-4, but Broken Bow remained level headed.
The Swedes lead by as much as six off a Beveridge kill, but the Indians turned a 4-0 run to pull within two at 13-11 off back-to-back kills.
Two aces and a Gothenburg attack error gave Broken Bow a 17-16 lead.
An Evert kill kept the set tied at 22. The teams traded points before back-to-back kills won the third 26-24 for the Indians.
Gothenburg fell behind early in the fourth set, and couldn’t recover until late in the set.
Broken Bow had an 11-8 lead off back-to-back kills before the Swedes gained momentum. The Swedes turned in two errors and used a Broken Bow error to tie the set at 11.
An Evert kill ended the Indians’ 3-0 run, but the Swedes’ celebration was cut short. Broken Bow went up 17-12 off a couple Gothenburg errors, forcing a Swede timeout.
Late in the fourth, Gothenburg held the Indians to fourth matches points. A Broken Bow error put the Swedes behind 24-23.
