Lexington soccer takes down Scottsbluff Tuesday in Lexington
LEXINGTON — Lexington soccer teams defeated Scottsbluff at home Tuesday evening at the Fieldhouse Complex.
The Minutemaids won 8-2 and the Minutemen won 2-0.
MAIDS
Lexington jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute after an Emmersyn Lawless goal.
The Maids led 1-0 at intermission.
Scottsbluff received a penalty kick in the 47th minute.
Beartcat Natalee Bentley scored the game-tying goal on the penalty.
From 20 yards out, Gisselle Maravilla got open for the game-winning shot in the 66th minute.
MINUTEMEN
After a battle to score, Lexington got on the board after a Tyler Thorell goal in the 31st minute from 25 yards.
Lexington held on to a one goal lead at the intermission.
Thorell made quick work in the 41st minute to put the Minutemen up 2-0 early in the second half.
Scottsbluff made it down the field a handful of times to attempt some shots but Lexington was able to defend them.
Lexington keeper Alexis Alvidrez-Cardiel had three saves in the Minutemen's win.
The home win put the Minutemen's record at 9-3 before their Thursday's Central Conference matchup against Crete.
CENTRAL CONFERENCE
The Minutemaids and Minutemen won the first round of the Central Conference Thursday at Ray Ehlers Stadium in Lexington.
Lexington girls run-ruled Schuyler 10-0 in the 61st minute to end the game early.
The Maids' first goal was scored as a Schuyler's own goal as it bounced of a Cardinal and into the goal in the first minute.
Samantha Caballero's goal with an assist to Emmersyn Lawless in the 4th minute put Lexington up 2-0.
Lawless picked up her second assist after connecting with Karlianys Santiago-Rivera in the 7th minute.
Lexington went up 4-0 after Lawless scored a goal from 20 yards straight out in the 15th minute.
In the 33rd minute, the Maids took a 5-0 lead after a goal by Valerie Cohetero off an assist by Vivian Vargas-Urbina.
Schuyler had one shot on goal with three minutes left but Maid keeper Greta Rickertsen was there for the save.
The Minutemaids led 5-0 at intermission.
Yerenys Rodriguez-Hernandez used a header to score the Maids' sixth goal off a corner kick by Lawless.
Lawless scored from 30 yards out in the 48th minute to put the Maids up 7-0.
Lexington went up 8-0 after a header by Maravilla on a corner kick by Lawless in the 52nd minute.
Schuyler committed a handball inside the box that awarded the Maids a penalty kick.
Edith Corzo set up the ball then slid a goal past the Warrior keeper in the 57th minute.
The Minutemaids needed one final goal to run-rule the Warriors.
It took Lexington just four minutes to achieve that goal.
Maravilla's second goal gave the Maids the victory in the 61st minute.Â
The Maids face-off against Grand Island Northwest at noon Saturday, April 18 at Crete Middle School.
The Minutemen defeated Crete 5-0.
Jose Navarrete scored in the 10th minute on a penalty kick.
Lexington was awarded the penalty after Crete had a handball inside the box.
Two minutes later, the Minutemen went up 2-0 after Navarrete scored a second goal.
The Minutemen led 2-0 at intermission.
Kendrick Marroquin scored a goal from four yards out in the 67th minute to put Lexington up 3-0.
In the 77th minute, Javier Garcia-Escobar found the back of the net to give the Minutemen a four goal lead.
Lexington scored the game winning goal in the 78th minute to complete the shutout.
Javier Garcia-Escobar was awarded the goal after his shot found the leg of a Crete player in front of the goal and slid in to the back of the net.
The Minutemen take on Grand Island Northwest at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18 at Crete High School.
