Emersyn Propp sets career high with 28 kills in Cozad’s win over St. Pat’s

COZAD — Emersyn Propp put down a new career high in kills with 28, helping the Cozad Haymakers defeat the North Platte St. Pat’s 25-17, 21-25, 25-18 and 26-24.
Propp’s 28th kill won the thriller for the Haymakers. Propp also finished the night with four aces.
Senior Braelyn Malcom matched her career high with 19 kills and two solo blocks.
The Irish were led by Jade Welch with 14 kills. Kelsie Allison finished with 12.
“I’m glad they could push through,” Asche said. “We’re at the part of the season where every practice is a pregame. So it’s very nice that they can rally together, and we can call a timeout and be like, you know, we’re not getting beat right now, we’re beating ourselves.
“Had we done that a few years ago, we would have crumbled under the pressure, but now they’re like you’re right, let’s go.”
Propp claimed two kills in Cozad’s 6-2 lead early in the first set, but a couple Cozad errors brought St. Pat’s within two at 7-5.
Malcom had three kills in Cozad’s 5-1 run, putting the Haymakers ahead 12-6.

Cozad led 20-9 off a Propp kill before a string of Haymaker errors brought the St. Pat’s within five at 20-15, and an ace by Karlie Davies brought them within four.
Propp finished off the rest of the set with two kills and an ace, helping Cozad win 25-17.
A St. Pat’s error gave Cozad a 10-5 lead in the second set before back-to-back Allison kills brought the Irish within two at 12-10.
St. Pat’s gained the lead 17-14 off two aces by McKinley Road. Down the stretch, Welch had an ace, pushing the Irish up 20-16.
An Allison kill gave St. Pat’s a large lead at 23-18, and Cozad gave them set point off an attack error. Cozad kept alive, holding the St. Pat’s to five set points. Cozad pulled within three at 24-21 off a St. Pat’s attack error.
However, St. Pat’s won the set 25-21 off a Cozad net violation.
Propp had a kill followed by three aces, putting Cozad up 6-4 in the third set.
Down the stretch, a Propp and Emalyn Geiger block gave Cozad a 15-11 lead. Cozad followed with a 6-0 run off a Propp kill to lead 19-11. St. Pat’s called a timeout.
A St. Pat’s error awarded Cozad the third set with 25-18.
Malcom knocked down back-to-back kills, pushing Cozad up 7-4 in the fourth set. St. Pat’s pulled within one at 7-6 off an ace by Gianna Pieper.
Propp tied her career high 24 kills, putting Cozad up 15-11. St. Pat’s used a 4-0 run, tying the set at 15 off a Road ace.
The Irish gained a three-point lead off an Allison kill before three straight errors gave Cozad the lead 22-21.
Malcom and Propp put down back-to-back kills, giving Cozad match point 24-22. A Haymaker error kept St. Pat’s alive, and an Allison ace tied the set at 24.
Propp won the match for the Haymakers off back-to-back kills, earning a career high of 28.
