The first night of rodeo action kicked off Thursday at the Dawson County Fair with the steer roping competition.
There were 12 competitors from across Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma and South Dakota.
The average winner after three rounds of roping was Jate Saults of Big Springs.
This is Saults' second straight year of winning the competition in Lexington.
His average time was 59.1, winning $615.10 for the average total.
Clete Scheer of Valentine turned in a second place finish in the average with a 31.3 time from two rounds. He earned $410.07.
ROUND 1
Chris Pearson of Broken Bow took home the first round win with a time of 13.4 seconds. He earned $410.07.
Saults finished with a time of 13.9 for second place and took home $273.38.
ROUND 2
Scheer was the round two winner with a time of 17.1 seconds, earning $410.07 in prize money.
Saults put together a 20.5 seconds run to claim the second place prize money of $273.38.
ROUND 3
North Platte's Keo Weaver was the round three winner with a time of 13.9 and earned $410.07 in prize money.
Wade Pearson of Oconto and Cole Tierney of Broken Bow split the prize money after both had a 20.8 second run. They split the earnings to take home $136.69 each.
