Lexington juniors baseball wins doubleheader over McCook
MCCOOK — Lexington Heartland Chevrolet Post 111 juniors won 8-4 in both games of their doubleheader Wednesday over McCook FCB juniors in McCook.
GAME 1
Lexington's Toran Kjar started on the mound, giving up three walks in a row.
Kjar got back-to-back outs with strikeouts.
McCook scored the first run after stealing home before Kjar walked a fourth batter.
Lexington picked up the third out as center fielder Miguel Rodriguez got a fly out to end the top of the first inning.
Angel Ruiz and Drexton Edeal got on with back-to-back singles.
Kjar followed with a single that put Ruiz in for the tying run.
Mason Velasquez earned a walk to give Lexington bases loaded.
Lexington took the lead after a forced run scored as Liam Denker was hit by a pitch.
McCook picked up their second out after striking out Brody Green.
A McCook error gave Jared Hernandez a three RBI hit. Kjar, Velasquez and Denker scored to put Lexington up 5-1.
The first inning ended after Rodriguez struck out.
Kjar picked up three strikeouts and gave up one walk in the top of the second.
McCook got back-to-back outs to kickoff the bottom of the second as Ruiz flew out to second base and Edeal struck out.
Kjar got on after being hit by a pitch followed by Velasquez with a single into right field.
Denker lined out to McCook's pitcher for the third out.
McCook started the top of the third with a single before two walks got the bases loaded.
A third walk for McCook put a forced run across home.
Kjar finished off the third with back-to-back strikeouts.
Green led with a single for Lexington in the bottom of the third.
Hernandez and Anthony Martinez struck out to give McCook back-to-back outs.
Rodriguez reached first base after being hit by a pitch.
A McCook balk put Green on third and Rodriguez on second during Ruiz's at bat.
Ruiz hit a grounder down third base and reached base on a McCook error, putting Green across home.
Edeal hit a pop fly to the McCook catcher to close out the third inning. Lexington led 6-2.
Lexington changed their lineup to put Kaden Barkmeier in as pitcher to start the fourth inning.
Barkmeier gave up two walks, one being a hit by pitch.
Rodriguez caught the first out in right field and Barkmeier followed with a strikeout.
McCook got the bases loaded with a walk before a Barkmeier strikeout to end the top of the inning.
Kjar led off with walk after being hit by a pitch and Velasquez followed with a single, putting Kjar in to score.
Lexington got two runners on after Barkmeier was hit by a pitch.
Hernandez flew out to center field for a second McCook out but his hit put Velasquez across home.
Lexington led 8-2 with only two outs.
Martinez struck out to end the fourth inning.
Lexington quickly got the first out as Hernandez caught a fly out in left field.
Barkmeier gave up two walks followed by a single.
Lexington called a timeout to change pitchers, putting Oliver Fellers in on the mound.
Fellers was called for a balk that gave McCook a run scored.
Martinez picked up the second out on a ground ball but McCook scored their fourth and final run.
Fellers ended the game with a strikeout, awarding Lexington the win 8-4.
GAME 2
McCook kicked off the second game with three straight outs.
Rodriguez and Ruiz struck out. Edeal grounded out to the shortstop.
Martinez started on the mound for Lexington, giving up back-to-back walks.
McCook took an early lead after a Lexington error put one run across home.
Martinez got the first out with a strikeout before Lexington's defense grabbed the final two outs.
Lexington got the bases loaded after Kjar was hit by a pitch, Hernandez got a hit and Denker earned a walk.
Barkmeier followed with a single to center field that put Kjar and Hernandez across home to take the lead.
McCook grabbed back-to-back outs before Rodriguez got on with a walk after being hit by a pitch.
McCook closed out the second inning after striking out Ruiz.
Martinez kicked off the second inning with a strikeout before giving up three walks.
A fourth walk awarded McCook a forced run scored to tie the game at 2 each.
McCook scored to take the lead but Lexington picked up their second out.
Lexington got the third out to end the bottom of the second down 3-2.
Edeal started the third with a single and Hernandez followed with a single line drive to left field.
Edeal scored on the hit, tying the game at 3.
McCook earned back-to-back outs after striking out Denker and Barkmeier.
Lexington faced four batters in the bottom of the third. Martinez gave up a walk but picked up a strikeout.
Dones got on as the lead-off batter with a single down third base.
Martinez followed with a single to right field, putting Dones in for the leading run.
Ruiz got on with a walk, putting two runners on for Lexington.
Kjar singled on a grounder that put Martinez and Ruiz across home.
Lexington led 6-3 to end the top of the fourth.
Lexington put Velasquez in to pitch for Martinez in the bottom of the fourth.
Velasquez gave up a walk then a hit.
McCook scored on a bunt to pull behind 6-4.
A double base hit followed by a walk gave McCook bases loaded.
Lexington grabbed the third out as Dones caught a pop fly at third.
Velasquez struck out to start the top of the fifth.
Barkmeier got on with a line drive to center field.
McCook got the second out after striking out Dones.
Martinez reached first with a line drive single to right field. Barkmeier advanced to third.
Rodriguez hit a double into left field that put Barkmeier and Martinez across home.
Lexington led 8-4 with two outs as Ruiz stepped up to bat.
McCook got the third out to close out the top of the fifth.
McCook started the bottom of the inning with a single.
Lexington turned around to get the runner out at second for the first out.
Martinez caught the second out on a pop fly at first base.
Velasquez gave up back-to-back walks, putting two runners on for McCook.
Velasquez cleaned up the inning with a strikeout to end the night with Lexington's 8-4 victory.
