Cozad takes fourth at home volleyball invite Saturday

COZAD — The Cozad Haymakers finished fourth in their home volleyball tournament Saturday.
Cozad won 25-23, 23-25 and 25-21 in the quarterfinal over Chase County.
The lady Makers faced Gothenburg in the semifinal, falling 25-23 and 25-20.
Cozad finished fourth after falling 25-21 and 25-20 to Ogallala.
Emersyn Propp had 32 kills through the three matches. Braelyn Malcom had 27 kills over three matches.
THIRD PLACE MATCH
A Propp kill put Cozad on the board after trailing 3-0.
Propp's second kill ended Ogallala's 6-1 run. Cozad trailed 9-3.
Malcom put down back-to-back kills, pulling the Haymakers behind 11-5.
Ogallala led 19-11 after a Cozad error. The Indians had five straight errors, putting Cozad behind 20-17.
The Indians reached set point after a kill, but followed with a serve error to keep Cozad alive.
Cozad gave Ogallala the first set win off a serve error, 25-21.
Cozad tied the second set 4-4 after a Propp ace.
Emalyn Geiger put down a kill to give Cozad the lead 6-5.
The Makers pulled behind 13-10 off a Malcom kill.
Down the stretch, back-to-back Malcom kills pulled Cozad behind 17-16.
Late in the set, Propp pulled the Makers behind 23-20 off a kill.
Ogallala earned third place after rolling an ace off the top of the net, ending the match 25-20.
SEMIFINAL
Cozad and Gothenburg faced off for a Dawson County rivalry in the semifinal match.
Propp's second kill of the first set put Cozad up 3-2 early on.
Gothenburg took the lead 7-5 after a kill by Zoe Beveridge.
Cozad gained the lead back after a Malcom kill at 11-10.
Down the stretch, Malcom sent over an ace that put Cozad up 18-14.
Ellaray Koch had a kill followed by an ace, pulling Gothenburg 21-19. The Swedes pulled behind one after a Lauren Mroczek and Greer Tiller block, forcing Cozad into a timeout.
An ace by Koch put the Swedes up 22-21. Cozad took a timeout after trailing 23-21 after a Mroczek kill.
A Malcom kill kept Cozad alive at set point, and a Gothenburg attack error pulled Cozad behind 24-23.
Gothenburg won the first set 25-23 off a Cozad attack error.
QUARTERFINAL
The first set of the quarterfinal against Chase County started off with a kill by Propp, and ended on her kill. She finished with 15 kills and three aces.
Cozad jumped to a 7-3 lead after a Propp ace. The Haymakers led 11-5 after a Malcom kill.
Chase County went on a 6-0 run, pulling behind 11-10 after an ace. The Longhorns then tied the set after a kill.
Cozad pulled back ahead after a Longhorn attack error at 15-12.
A Malcom kill followed by a Geiger kill pushed Cozad ahead 21-18.
The Makers led 23-19 after a solo block by Malcom.
Chase County pulled behind 23-22 after a kill then an ace.
Propp capped the first set with a kill, giving Cozad a 25-23 win.
The Makers trailed 0-3 in the second set before a Propp kill ended the Longhorn run. Chase County led the entire match.
Three straight kills for Cozad pulled the Makers behind 8-7.
Down the stretch, Malcom put down a kill to close the gap to three at 18-15.
Chase County jumped out to a five-point lead after back-to-back kills. A Longhorn ace followed, giving Chase County the lead 23-17.
A serve error by Cozad gave Chase County set point, but the Makers used a 4-0 run to pull behind 24-23. The Longhorns won the set off a Cozad error.
Cozad started out with a 2-0 lead after back-to-back Longhorn errors.
A Malcom kill followed by a Propp kill gave Cozad an 11-6 lead.
The Haymakers led 16-9 after a Chase County attack error.
Chase County made a run down the stretch, pulling behind 17-16 off a Cozad error.
Cozad extended their lead 20-17 off a Malcom kill. Chase County followed with a 4-0 run to take the lead 21-20.
A Propp kill gave Cozad the lead back 22-21, and Cozad finished off the match with a 3-0 run. Ashlynn Propp had a solo block for the match win.
