OGALLALA — Gothenburg’s Scout Bell was more excited to see how the Swedes girls cross country team did as a team than what time she ran as an individual at the District C-5 Meet at Crandall Creek Golf Course in Ogallala on Wednesday.
Luckily for Bell, she posted a strong time, and the Swedes won the district title.
“It’s definitely exciting,” Bell said. “I’m more excited to see how we did as a team. This meet’s a really big one. I’m just really happy that we all ran a good race, every single one of our teammates, and I’m more excited to see how we do as a team.”
Bell crossed the finish line with a time of 18:16.1, the fastest time of any Class C district, to win the district title. Gothenburg (20 points) edged out Chase County by six points to win the team title.
Gothenburg freshman Cassidy Reiman finished runner-up at 18:36.4, and Brooklyn Reiman came in sixth at 19:59.6. Jenna Anderson rounded out the Swedes’ scoring with a 12th-place finish at 21:01.1.
“Having Cassidy at practice, she’s really fast, and she’s always willing to push the pace,” Bell said. “When one of us is having a hard day, it’s just so much easier to have a teammate that is willing to hold you accountable and can hold you accountable. It’s just so amazing to have all these good girls on my team.”
Chase County scored 26 team points, led by Addison Hauxwell’s third-place finish at 18:44.1. Emily Randall came in fourth at 19:22.4, Briella Exum placed ninth at 20:31.8, Bennett Smith finished 11th at 20:48.1, and Hayden Fowler placed 14th at 21:14.5.
