Diane Yeutter: Understanding the Holy Spirit changes your life forever
Jessica Kennedy
Many Christians misunderstand who the Holy Spirit is.
They view Him as a force or feeling.
Diane Yeutter
As a child, when the minister spoke of the Holy Ghost, images of Casper the Friendly Ghost filled my young mind. I thought He was an, it, a something, not a someone.
As a young woman, one pastor spoke of the Holy Spirit as an impersonal force. This confused me.
Family and friends that walked with God had ‘something about them.’ A glow. A knowing. They lived with divine understanding.
After the service, I asked if she believed God cared about the details of our lives.
She hesitated. “Well, to a certain point. He doesn’t care if you turn left or right at a stop sign.”
I studied the lives of family and friends who had a ‘presence’ about them.
I asked them questions. They told me their stories. Their lives were lived one way and then when they received the Holy Spirit, their life became different.
Each person enjoyed a personal relationship with Him. They treated him like an intimate friend, trusting him as counselor, helper, and guide.
An older friend shared, “Christians need to know who the Holy Spirit is and what he does.”
I asked, “Who is He?”
“He’s my best friend. He helps me get through each day, telling me where to go and what to do and what to say. He even rides in the car with me. I look over at the passenger side and say, ‘Thank you for traveling with me.’ And when I need a parking place, I say, ‘God, this old gray mare ain’t what she used to be. I need a parking spot. Thank you for finding me one.’” He never failed her.
God won’t fail you either.
The Holy Spirit is your constant guide, counselor, and friend forever.
