Lexington softball takes eighth place at home tournament
The Lexington Minutemaids fell to last place in their home tournament Saturday at the Optimist Complex.
Lexington lost 17-0 to HWY 6, lost 17-1 to Adams Central and lost 14-2 to Gothenburg.
Scottsbluff took home the tournament champion title after defeating Chadron 9-1 in the championship game.
Southern Valley took third place, defeating HWY 6 11-7. Adams Central earned fifth place after winning 17-1 over Alliance. Gothenburg finished in seventh.

VS. HWY 6
The HWY 6 Trailblazers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the top of the first inning against Lexington.
Lexington’s Destiny Hernandez led off with a ground out and Iriana Martinez and Daisy Villalon followed with strikeouts to close the first inning.
Maid Taylor Shively picked up her first strikeout for the first out in the top of the second.
HWY 6 scored two runs to lead 9-0 before a Shively strikeout ended the top of the second.

Shively grounded out as the lead-off batter in the bottom of the second. Sophia Burns and Cami Sutton struck out.
Sutton caught Lexington’s first out in the top of the third before Shively gave up a walk.
The Maids’ second out came after Martinez threw to Sutton at first. The top of the third inning closed after Andrea Gomez-Sanchez threw to Sutton at first for an out.
Taylor Strong drew a walk for Lexington in the bottom of the third and Jocelyne Morales-Contreras was hit by a pitch.
HWY 6 grabbed back-to-back outs as Gomez-Sanchez grounded out and Strong was picked off stealing third.
Martinez singled on a line drive to left field, giving the Maids bases loaded.
The third inning closed after Morales-Contreras was picked off at third.
The game got away from Lexington in the top of the fourth. HWY 6 scored eight runs to lead 17-0.
Villalon led off with a single on a line drive to center field before Adey Alarcon struck out. HWY 6 earned their second out after Villalon was caught stealing home.
A single for Burns gave Lexington two runners on. Sutton hit a ground ball single and reached on an error by HWY 6.

The game ended after Strong lined to second base, awarding HWY 6 the win. Lexington dropped to the consolation bracket to face Adams Central.
VS. ADAMS CENTRAL
Lexington was the away team in their second game against Adams Central.
Strong led with a ground ball, reaching on an error by Adams Central’s first baseman.
Adams Central earned their first out, tagging Strong out stealing second. Martinez flew out to second for the second out.
Shively grounded out to the Adams Central pitcher to end the top of the first.
The Patriots scored 13 runs in the bottom of the first with Joslynn Lans pitching for the Maids.
Adams Central saw four batters in the top of the second. Villalon grounded out, Burns struck out and Sutton grounded out. Hernandez got on after being hit by a pitch.
Lexington gave up four runs in the bottom of the second, putting Adams Central up 17-0.
The top of the third began with an out for Adams Central as Morales-Contreras was out on a dropped third strike.
Vivian Vargas reached on an error after a ground ball hit. Strong followed with a ground ball hit, reaching on an Adams Central error.
The Maids scored their first run of the tournament after Martinez grounded out. The hit put Vargas across home.
The game ended on a run-rule after Shively grounded out to Adams Central’s shortstop.
Lexington dropped down to play for seventh place against Gothenburg.
VS. GOTHENBURG
Lexington started off on offense in the seventh place game against Gothenburg.
Strong led of with a walk before Martinez lined out to Aubrey Cross at shortstop.
Shively drew a walk to give Lexington two runners on with Aubrey Evert pitching.
Gothenburg put in Keira Sukup on the mound to replace Evert before Villalon’s at bat.
Villalon grounded out to Sukup, but the hit put Strong across home. The top of the first inning closed after Burns flew out to center.
Evert drew a walk as the lead-off batter and Briony Aden followed with a walk.
An error by catcher Villalon put Evert across home to score the tying run.
Shively earned a strikeout against Brittlin Bussinger.
Taye Herrick drew a walk before the Swedes scored three more runs.
A walk for Elsie Gronewold put Gothenburg up 5-1.
Lexington called a timeout to replace Shively on the mound with Lans. Lans earned a strikeout before giving up a walk and a hit.
Gothenburg led 7-1 before Lans struck out Herrick to close the first inning.
Lans led off with a ground out before Ximena Gomez grounded out. Morales-Contreras singled on a grounder to left.
The Swedes kept Lexington from scoring after Vargas was out on a dropped third strike.
MacKenzie Winney started the bottom of the second with a double to left. Cross followed with a grounder and reached on an error. The error put Winney across home, and Cross advanced to second.
Chloe Stoddard was hit by a Lans' pitch, putting two runners on for Gothenburg. Sukup drew a walk to get the bases loaded.
Gothenburg scored a forced run after Gronewold drew a walk. Cross scored.
Lexington claimed their first out after Evert grounded out to Hernandez on the mound. The hit put Stoddard in to score. Gothenburg led 10-1.
A Maid error on a ground ball put two Swede runs in.
Bussinger hit a double on a fly to Strong at shortstop. Herrick hit a pop fly for Lexington’s second out.
Gothenburg went up 14-1 after Winney turned a ground ball hit into a two-run RBI. Winney was caught stealing third to close the second inning.
Strong led with a walk in the top of the third. Martinez followed with a single grounder.
Alyssa-Rose Aguilar popped up into a double play. Martinez got out at first after failing to tag up.
A line drive double by Villalon put pinch runner Alarcon across home.
Burns singled on a ground ball, but Gothenburg got Villalon out advancing to home for the third out.
Gothenburg claimed the win 14-2 on a run-rule.
