Cozad South bridge project officially complete with commissioners' action

LEXINGTON — The Dawson County commissioners unanimously approved the final acceptance for the Cozad South project construction at their Friday morning.
The bridge on Road 754 west of Highway 21 south of Cozad was completed a year ago, according to Mark Christiansen, highway superintendent.
The project used 80% federal aid funds and 20% local county funds with 100% reimbursement from Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation upon filing the final paperwork, Christiansen said.
The board tabled a discussion on the vacating/abandonment of County Road 426 after Christiansen's report that indicated no civil agreement had been reached. He recommended the board table the matter.
The board heard the following committee reports:
Commissioner Rod Reynolds gave a brief courthouse remodel update.
Commissioner Joe Richeson reported that the new servers had been ordered.
Commissioner Bill Stewart reported a small reduction in funds to the county health insurance fund.
Sheriff Mark Montgomery provided the board with the February crime report.
The commissioners went into a 20-minute executive session to discuss the public defender position at the request of Richeson.
After the executive session, the commissioners accepted the recommendation of the policy board to move into negotiations with the public defender candidate.
Prior to the commissioners meeting, the board approved three vehicle tax exemption requests from the Calvary Assembly of God Church for a 2012 Ford Expedition, a 1999 unit trailer and a 2013 Ford Expedition.
