The S-E-M Mustangs lost at home Tuesday in four sets to Ansley-Litchfield.
Kyler Jones led the Mustangs with 17 kills in the 25-20, 19-23, 22-25 and 9-25 loss.
S-E-MÂ fell behind 4-2 early in the first set, but battled back to tie the match at 4 after a kill by Ally Kappel.
Later in the set, S-E-M took a 13-11 lead off a Jones kill. The Mustangs led 22-18 down the stretch off a Jones kill.
S-E-M captured the first set win off a Jones kill 25-20.
The Mustangs maintained an early lead in the second set, leading 8-4 off a Kappel kill. S-E-M later led 10-6 off a kill by Haylee Hays.
Ansley-Litchfield gained momentum, using a 9-0 run to pull ahead 15-10.
The Mustangs battled back within two at 16-14 off a Mia Scoville ace.
An ace put the Spartans ahead 23-18, and an S-E-M attack error awarded the Spartans set point. The Spartans finished the set with a kill, winning 25-19.
A Hays kill gave S-E-M a 7-5 lead in the third set, but Ansley-Litchfield quickly took over. The Spartans used a 3-0 run, taking the short lead at 8-7.
After a tie at 13, the Spartans used a 7-0 run to pull away 20-13.
Lily Hrasky put down a Mustang kill, and S-E-M pulled within four at 23-19. Hays followed with a kill, cutting the deficit to three.
S-E-M pulled within two at 23-21 off a Hrasky kill, but a Spartan kill gave them set point.
The Mustangs stayed alive for one more point off a kill by Hays, but S-E-M's attack error gave Ansley-Litchfield the third set win 25-22.
Kappel's kill tied the fourth set at 3 early, and a Jones killed pulled S-E-M within one at 5-4.
Ansley-Litchfield dominated the majority of the fourth, using an 11-0 run to lead 18-6 off a kill.
The Spartans led 22-8 after back-to-back Mustang attack errors.
Ansley-Litchfield reached match point after a block, and capped the night with a kill to win 25-9.
