S-E-M's Heath Henson punches state meet ticket as lone Mustang

ELM CREEK — After the two-day Class D-2 District Meet, S-E-M's Heath Henson punched his ticket to the Class D State Championships.
The Mustang junior finished as the 165-pound district runner-up.
Henson won the first round with a pin in the first period over Plainview's Emiliano Solorzano.
In the quarterfinal, Henson led 10-0 before winning by pin over Elm Creek's Jayden Meier.
Henson led 3-1 in the first period of the semifinal against Southern Valley junior Hayden Lans.
Lans got an escape and two takedowns in the second period to take the lead 8-4 before Henson got an escape followed by a takedown and a penalty point to stay on top 9-8.
Henson started the third period with an escape to lead 10-8 before Lans got a takedown.
Henson got a reversal, and was awarded a stalling point to pull off the close 12-11 win over the top seeded Lans.
In the championship, Henson lost by pin in 27 seconds to Twin Loup's Oran Grint.
Henson will face off against 48-4 Breckyn Collins of North Platte St. Pat's in the opening round at state.
The Class D session begins Thursday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. at the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha.

BROKEN BOW — Gothenburg's Lucas Therrien, Tristan Koch and Maddox Gilligan punched their tickets to state Saturday at the Class C-4 District Meet in Broken Bow.
The Class C State Championship begin Thursday, Feb. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha.
GILLIGAN
The Swede sophomore grabbled his way into the 138-pound district champion title.
After a first round bye, Gilligan won the quarterfinal by pin in the third period over Yutan's Tate Abbott.
Gilligan won the semifinal with a 9-3 decision over Gibbon's Ivan Tamayo.
In the championship, Gilligan had a pin in 24 seconds over top seeded Broken Bow senior Cash Watson.
Gilligan opens the state tournament against 25-15 sophomore Will Berlie of Doniphan-Trumbull.
KOCH
The junior is a two-time state qualifier after finishing as the 175-pound district runner-up.
Koch had a first round bye before winning the quarterfinal by pin in the second period over Kearney Catholic's Devin Carrell.
In the semifinal, Koch was down 1-0 to Chadron's Braden Wright before securing the win by pin in the third period to punch his ticket to state.
Koch lost by a 14-3 major decision in the championship to Broken Bow's Cobe Wells.
In the first round at state, Koch will take on Sam Dodge of Lincoln Christian.
THERRIEN
The 43-6 junior finished as the 120-pound district runner-up.
After a first round bye, Therrien won by pin in the first period over Bridgeport's Logan Freiberger.
Therrien won the semifinal 9-6 in overtime over Kolten Wragge of Pierce.
In the championship, Therrien lost by pin in the second period to Philip Streff of North Bend Central.
Therrien takes on Wood River senior Hector Bonilla in the first round at state.

3 Hi-Line wrestlers punch tickets to state

BARTLEY — Three Hi-Line Bull wrestlers snagged their tickets to state Saturday in Bartley at the Class D-4 District Meet.
Seniors Connor Edwards and Parker Schutz became three-time state qualifiers and sophomore Gage Rupp will make his first state appearance.
The Class D State Championships start at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 at the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha.
EDWARDS
The top seeded Bull claimed the 120-pound district champion title.
After a bye in the first round, Edwards won the quarterfinal by pin in 58 seconds over teammate Cartar Kelly.
Edwards had a pin in 51 seconds over Hyannis' Colter Grant in the semifinal.
In the championship, Edwards won with a 21-3 tech fall in the second period over Arapahoe's Hayden Helms.
Edwards takes a 27-4 record to state to face Axton Lantz of Wisner-Pilger in the first round.
SCHUTZ
Schutz became a three-time state qualifier after finishing as the 150-pound district runner-up.
He had a pin in 23 seconds over Crawford's Korbin MaZanac in the first round.
In the quarterfinal, Schutz won by pin in the first period over Pierce Phelps of Southern Valley.
Schutz won the semifinal by pin over Sandhills Valley's Tucker Myers in the first period.
In the championship, Schutz went into overtime against Cambridge's Micah Gerlach.
Gerlach won the match 14-11.
Schutz will take on Emmet Grint of Twin Loup in the first round at state.
RUPP
The Bull claimed the 157-pound runner-up title.
Rupp won the first round by pin in the first period over Hyannis' Tom Connell.
In the quarterfinal, Rupp had a pin in 50 seconds to win over Brady's Andrew Karchner.
Rupp used a 17-3 major decision to win over Cambridge's Carter Shoemaker in the semifinal.
In the championship, Rupp lost by pin to Mullen's Jason Kraus in the second period.
At state, Rupp faces off against Ravenna junior Logan Spotanski.

Overton's Anthony Arredondo snags state ticket

OAKLAND — Overton junior Anthony Arredondo punched his ticket to the state tournament Saturday at the Class D-1 District Meet in Oakland.
Arredondo finished in third place in the 175-pound weight class.
He won the first round by pin near the end of the first period over Randolph's Esai Warman.
In the quarterfinal, Arredondo won by pin in the second period over Jacob Motacek of Niobrara/Verdigre.
Arredondo lost the semifinal by pin to Sutton's Griffin Bergen.
In the consolation semifinal, he won by pin in the third period after trailing 8-0 to Evan Hegemann of Howells-Dodge.
Arredondo took third after defeating Motacek by a 9-5 decision.
At state, Arredondo will take on Rocco Hageman of East Butler in the first round.
