VOLLEYBALL: Overton wraps up regular season with sweep of Bertrand

The Overton Eagles volleyball team won 25-18, 25-18, 25-22 in their regular season finale over Bertrand Thursday in Overton.
Overton was led by Chelsey Gonzalez with 17 kills. Piper McCarter chipped in 16 kills and one block.
The Eagles took a 6-1 lead in the first set off a Bertrand rotation error. A McCarter kill extended the Overton lead 9-3. Bertrand battled back within three at 10-7 after back-to-back kills.
Overton used a 5-1 run off a McCarter kill to lead 16-9. Later, a Bertrand ace pulled the Vikings within three at 18-15. The Eagles extended their lead 23-16 after a string of Bertrand errors.
A Gonzalez kill gave Overton set point and Kyla Elfgren followed with an ace for the win 25-18.
Jillian Clark followed an Elfgren with a kill, giving Overton a 4-1 lead in the second set.
The errors fell on Overton's side, giving Bertrand a tie at 8 after a Viking ace. Bertrand followed closely behind the Eagles, tying the set at 14 before gaining the lead.
Overton's Mickailee Reil used a kill, tying the set at 16. The Eagles then used a 6-1 run off a McCarter kill to lead 22-17. McCarter's 11th kill pushed the Eagles to a five-point lead.
Gonzalez followed a Bertrand attack error with her eighth kill, giving Overton the 25-18 second set win.
The Eagles went on a 4-0 run in the third set. Gonzalez and Clark each had a kill and Elfgren sent over an ace.
A McCarter blocked kept Overton up 6-4 before Bertrand used a 4-1 run to lead 8-7. Gonzalez found a slide kill, ending a long rally. Overton took the lead back 9-8.
Bertrand used a blocked followed by an ace to start a 4-0 run. The Vikings pushed Overton into a timeout after taking a 12-9 lead.
Elfgren had a solo block, pulling Overton within two at 12-10. The Eagles followed with a 3-0 run off a Gonzalez kill to lead 13-12.
A Gonzalez kill tied the set at 14, but Bertrand kept right with the Eagles to the very end.
Once Overton gained the lead at 18-17 off a McCarter, the Eagles played lights out to maintain their lead. McCarter's 16th kill extended Overton's lead 20-18. Samantha Luther's ace pushed the Eagles in to a three point lead.
Gonzalez found the floor for her 14th kill, getting Overton closer to the sweep win at 22-19. She slammed down back-to-back kills, giving Overton match point 24-19.
Bertrand responded with a kill off the hands of an Overton block then Overton committed back-to-back errors. The Vikings pulled within two at 24-22.
Overton celebrated their win after Gonzalez's 17th kill won the match 25-22.
OVERTON STATS
Elfgren had three aces and one solo block. Clark had five kills.
POSTSEASON
Overton takes the No. 4 seed in the Class D2-7 subdistrict and faces No. 5 Bertrand at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26 in Wilcox. The winner faces No. 1 Wilcox-Hildreth at 7 p.m.
