Lexington finishes fourth as a team at Schuyler invite

SCHUYLER — The Lexington Minutemaid wrestling team competed in a huge tournament in Schuyler on Friday.
Lexington was down some wrestlers but managed to place fourth as a team with 126 points.
The Grand Island girls were the team champion with 203 points.
Lexington had no grapplers place in the 100, 105, 110, 120, 135, 140, 145 weight classes.
Gisselle Maravilla finished in fourth in the 115-pound bracket after losing by tech fall to Lakeview’s Meredith Bargen.
Gabby Vu ended in fifth place after a pin over Madison Dembowski of Grand Island in the 125-pound weight class.
After a 5-0 decision win over Crete’s Trinity Williamson, Delilah Solis took home third place in the 130-pound bracket.
Emily Bueno finished in sixth place after losing a close 4-5 decision to Abby Lindsley of Blue River in the 155-pound weight class.
In the 170-pound weight class, Hadlie Wolf finished in third after a close 2-1 decision win over Laylani Kasik of Blue River.
McKenzie Furgison placed fifth after winning by a pin over Blue River’s Jessica Bauers in the 190-pound bracket.
Ashley Najera remains undefeated after winning the 235-pound weight class with a pin over Grand Island’s Ali Edwards.
Lexington will host their home invite on Friday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m.

LEXINGTON — The Lexington Minutemaids were still searching for their first win as they hosted the 3-8 North Platte Bulldogs on Friday.
North Platte was on an eight game losing streak but had their sights set on taking down the Minutemaids.
Lexington battled hard but came up short 26-45.
North Platte hit an impressive seven 3s in the first half and three in the second half to secure their win.
The Bulldogs were led by senior Abby Kaminski who scored 16 points and made four 3s.
The Minutemaids had a breakout star in freshman Josslyn Mins.
Mins had a career high 20 points. She made all four of the Maids first quarter points and scored seven of the eight points in the second quarter.
The freshman polished off the second half with nine of the Maids’ 14 points.
Lexington fell behind from the start as North Platte jumped out to an 18-4 lead.
The Maids had to play catch up from there but the fast paced offense of North Platte made it seemingly impossible to erase their lead.
North Platte captured a hefty 30-12 lead at halftime.
Lexington went on to score seven points in the third and seven in the fourth quarter.
Mins put together all seven points for Lexington in the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs finished off the second half with three 3s. North Platte scored five points in the third and 10 in the fourth for the victory.
Lexington’s Maylin Novoa finished with four points and Abbi Sutton added two.
The Minutemaids travel to McCook on Tuesday, Jan. 21 with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.

LEXINGTON — Lexington boys basketball took a hard loss on Friday to the North Platte Bulldogs.
Both the Minutemen and Bulldogs have struggled this season with losing records.
With the 50-33 win over Lexington, North Platte secured its first win.
Lexington dropped to a 1-12 record.
Lexington started off behind 3-17 in the first quarter.
Bryant Truax scored a 3 for the Minutemen and that was their only points in the first eight minutes.
Seth Rhea picked up his game in the second quarter to score eight of the Minutemen’s 10 points.
North Platte’s Logan Hayes and Jake Kinkaid combined to make 15 of the Bulldogs 17 points in the first quarter.
The Minutemen were down 13-25 at halftime.
Lexington’s Josiah Adams and Tyler Thorell each hit a 3 in the third quarter as the Minutemen outscored the Bulldog 12-10.
North Platte held a 35-25 lead going into the fourth quarter.
A 3 for Kinkaid and North Platte going eight of 12 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter secured their win as they finished with 15 points and held Lexington to eight.
Truax had a 3 and made a free throw in the fourth while Kannon Seim stepped up to score two buckets to combine for Lexington’s eight point quarter.
Rhea finished with 10 points for Lexington while Truax added eight. Seim had six and Adams added five.
Lexington travels to McCook on Tuesday, Jan. 21 with an approximate tip-off at 7 p.m.
