Mallorie Buescher earns medal from third trip to championships
LINCOLN – The Minutemaids tennis team traveled to Lincoln for the two-day state championships event and while several of the underclassmen-heavy team were eliminated the first day, one athlete made it through to the very top of her bracket.
Lexington senior Mallorie Buescher found herself undefeated at the state tournament ahead of the finals in the Class B no. 2 singles match, taking wins over Lincoln Christian and Omaha Skutt Catholic on day one and taking a definitive win over Gering at the start of day two (6-1,6-2).
Buescher had made the championship final and was set to meet Brownell-Talbot/Concordia junior Aruna Bashir for the gold.
Bashir won the match, 6-2, 6-0, and Buescher proudly took home a silver medal as runner-up in the NSAA Class B no. 2 singles State Championship.
The 2019 Championships were Bueschers third appearance at the tournament as she competed as a sophomore in 2017 in #1 doubles with partner Theresa Aguirre, in no. 2 singles as a junior in 2018, and finished out her high school career with a silver medal from the state championships.
Congratulations to Mallorie Buescher and the Minutemaids from the Lexington Clipper-Herald staff.
