ELWOOD – The Elwood Pirates hosted the Fort Kearny Conference Track and Field Meet on Friday last week. Three area schools competed including Elwood, Overton and S-E-M. The Elwood girls led area schools in the ladies competitions, taking fourth place with 41.50 points. The lady Mustangs followed them in sixth place with 38 and the Overton girls landed in ninth place with 20 points. In the boys competitions, the S-E-M boys took eighth place with 20 points while Elwood took third with 57 and the Overton boys took second with 74 points. Elwood gold medalists included Taylor Hickey in the girls 1600 meter run. Hickey completed the event with a final time of 5:52.70. Zacob Evans ran the 400 meter dash in 50.80 seconds taking first place and EHS’ second gold medal of the meet.

Overton’s lone gold medalist, Morgan Wallace, led in the boys 800 meter run where he completed in 2:07.40.

Despite one gold medal among the Eagles boys, they sported several second and third place medals in many of the events at the meet, leading to their second place finish as a team. Competitors earning silver medals for Overton in Elwood included Schuyler Brown in shot put, Braden Kizer in the high jump and triple jump, and the boys 3200 meter relay team.

The S-E-M Mustangs went home with two gold medals including one for Jenaya Pierce’s 13:32.50 finish in the 3200 meter run and Carson Rohde’s 135’0.00” throw in the discus.
