COZAD – Cozad hosted the 2019 Southwest Conference Track and Field Meet over the weekend. The lady Haymakers claimed fourth place among the girls teams with a team total of 71 points while the Haymaker boys took fifth as a team with 40 points. CHS also claimed two gold medals at the meet.

Brittney Aitken earned a gold medal for the Cozad girls, taking first place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.69 seconds. Aitken’s second place finish in the 200 meter dash at 27.00 second added eight points to the team effort. Backing her in those competitions, Jercey Irish took fifth place in the 100 meter and fourth place in the 200 meter, helping the lady ‘Makers as a team.

The girls 4x100 meter relay team took second place at the SWC meet. Megan Burkholder, Brittney Aitken, Jercey Irish and Brenna Dugan completed their circuit in 52.30 seconds. The 4x800 meter relay team also placed in the top three with Katelyn Calhoun, Margaret McGinnis, Tayler Chytka and Allyson Shotkoski finishing in 11:04.03 for third place.

Megan Burkholder finished strong for the Haymaker girls in the pole vault on Saturday. Burkholder took second place in the competition having cleared 10’03.00” for eight more points.

Cozad’s gold medalist for the boys, Evan McCrickard, took first place in the 200 meter dash. McCrickard’s 23.51 second entry also earned 10 points for the Haymakers’ team score.

The Cozad boys 4x800 meter relay team also finished in the top three. Jacob Sub, Austin Werner, Gabriel Estrada and Connor Geiger claimed third place with a 9:01 second entry for six more points.
