He was born July 22, 1935 in his grandparents’ home in Lexington, second son of Vernon and Myrtle (Chadwick) Robb. He started his education at the Smithfield School, and graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1952.
On June 2, 1957, he was united in marriage to Shirley Rae Way in Smithfield. The couple was blessed with four daughters. The family made their home on a farm near Smithfield, where they raised a variety of crops and livestock. Gary was also employed at times by Tri-County, Bertrand CO-OP, and, for many years, as a bus driver for Bertrand Community Schools, where he had the opportunity to interact with many of the young people in the community.
During his retirement years, he drove a truck part time for NCS, and Shirley often accompanied him on these trips around the country to pick up or deliver equipment. This helped indulge one of their shared passions; travel. His interest in local government led him to run for and be elected to Gosper County Board of Commissioners. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and served in leadership roles.
Gary and Shirley spent the last few years living in Kearney until Gary’s health issues led them to move to Holdrege.
Gary leaves to celebrate his memory his wife of 62 years, Shirley Robb of Holdrege; his daughters, Joyce (Randy) Gettman of Walton; Christie (Raleigh) Burbach of Hartington; Denise Oestmann and her husband, Matt of Auburn; and Terri (Troy) Brush of Kearney; 12 grandchildren, Lisa (Andrew) Edwards; Greg Gettman; Staci (Ben) Brummels; Stephanie (Cord) Scheer; Adam Burbach; Carrie (Alex) Wiebold; Eric Burbach; Hunter Oestmann; Kinsley Oestmann; Schuyler Brush; Jayden Brush; and Parker Brush; two step-grandchildren: Brandon Oestmann; and Dani (Nate) Jarecke; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Leland Robb.
A memorial has been established in Gary’s honor, and kindly suggested to the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital or the Brain Injury Alliance of Nebraska.
