Elaine Lepp

Effie Elaine (Bahr) Lepp died Sunday, June 16, 2019 in Englewood, Colo.

In honor of her request, her children, Jim and Linda Stevens, Dr. Keith Lepp, and Janet Lepp and Ted Lones; her grandchildren Dr. Perry Stevens and Dr. Jason Rodriguez, Drs. Quinn and Roxanne Stevens, Dr. Nathaniel and Stephanie Lepp, and Gabe and Michelle Lepp; and her great-grandchildren Isis, Ambrose, and Xyla Stevens, Anik Lepp and Ryder Lepp celebrate her life.

She was named Effie in honor of a special Aunt but was always known as Elaine.  She was born Aug. 31, 1920 and was the only child of Erich and Etta (Warren) Bahr.  She grew up on a farm near Wood River.

After graduating from high school she attended Kearney State College for two years.  She taught in rural schools near Wood River for a few years living with families near the schools each school year.  Subsequently moving to Grand Island, she worked in the offices of International Harvester.

Following WWII, she met her future husband Eldon Lepp on the Wilbur Lepp farm near her parents.  They married in 1947 and lived most of their married life in Gothenburg.  They had three children, Linda, Keith, and Janet.  Elaine was active in the First Methodist Church and in her children’s activities, supporting them in scouts, 4-H, and many school events.  She was also very supportive of Eldon in his business and in his community involvement.  She was the “energizer bunny” of our family . . . homemaker extraordinaire.  She was known for baking exceptional pies and dozens upon dozens of cookies.

Elaine and Eldon enjoyed many travel opportunities.  Following Eldon’s passing in 2002, Elaine continued to travel with her children.  To celebrate her 90th birthday, she took her children and spouses on a cruise through the Panama Canal.

Near the end of her life she expressed her love for her family and asked us to be happy for her life rather than sad for her passing.  Her great sadness was the passing of her daughter-in-law, Ilene Lepp in 2008.

Memorials may be made to the Gothenburg Public Library at 1104 Lake Ave., Gothenburg, NE 69138.
