Michael R. Sterling

Michael R. Sterling, age 71, died peacefully in his sleep Monday, Feb. 26, 2018 at his home in Harlingen, Texas. He is a former Johnson Lake resident.

A Celebration of Life Party will be held on Friday, March 9 at the Barnyard Hall in the Nebraska Global Building, 151 N 8th Street in Lincoln, 5:00- 9:00 p.m. All memorials and condolences should be sent to: 6441 S. 86th Street Lincoln, NE 68526.

He was born on Nov., 23, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio.

He has lived most of his life with his sweetheart Nancy, who were united in holy matrimony in 1967. He was a very proud father of his two sons, Shawn and Shane and a Papa of 5. He served his country in the Vietnam War. He worked most of his life as an independent over the road truck driver, instilling a strong work ethic that exists today in his children and grandchildren.

He enjoyed spending time golfing, fishing, trips to Mexico, reading a good book, and hanging out with family and friends. He was a gifted story-teller and had a few favorites you may have heard many times, but there was no stopping him once he started. He loved his Country.

Papa was able to see each of his grandchildren participate in their passion and enjoyed his conversations with each of them. His proudest accomplishments were marrying up and being able to see Shawn and Shane excel in life, often commenting on how hard they worked and the great parents they had become. He loved talking to his sons and brothers over the phone as often as he could.

He will forever be cherished as a man who simply was never dull to be around.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Nancy, and their two sons and wives, Shawn and Becky and Shane and Lisa. He was blessed with five grandchildren who all call him Papa and lit up his world: Brockton, Kaitlin, Bailee, Kaeli, and Kendyl and his loving Brothers: Hermie, Tony, Jessie, and Dave along with his oldest living relative: Aunt Lou Izzy and many nephews and nieces.

He is predeceased by his loving parents, Richard Sterling, Herman and Wanda Anaya, and his brothers Snip, Shank, and Johnny, what a reunion that will be! He will also have slot machine waiting for him next to his Mother-in-law, Irene.
