Powerball Winning Ticket Sold in Grand Island Expires Soon

Lincoln, NE – September 18, 2018 – A $1 million Powerball prize will expire soon unless someone comes forward with the winning ticket.

For the April 18 Powerball drawing, one ticket sold in Nebraska matched all five winning white ball numbers (09, 10, 12, 17, 23) for $1 million. The ticket was sold at Kwik Shop #670, 2103 Capehart Road in Bellevue. At the time, this was the 18th $1 million winning ticket sold in Nebraska.

Two $1 million Nebraska Powerball tickets have been claimed since then – but not the April 18 ticket from Kwik Shop. And time is running out to cash it in before the October 15 expiration date.

“Winning Nebraska Lottery Lotto tickets expire 180 days after the drawing, said Brian Rockey, Nebraska Lottery Director. “Only a few weeks are left before this Powerball ticket expires, so anyone who thinks they might have bought this ticket should check and see if they have it stashed away somewhere.”

Lottery prizes of $20,000 or more must be claimed in person at Nebraska Lottery headquarters, 137 Northwest 17th Street in Lincoln. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday. If the holder of the million-dollar Powerball ticket does not come in before the end of the business day on Monday, October 15, the ticket will expire.

Rockey added that big prizes rarely go unclaimed, but occasionally it does happen. “If we have a Lotto prize that’s about to expire, we try to get the word out as much as possible so it gets claimed. We post information about the expiring ticket at the selling retailer and on our website and social channels, and notify local media. Despite our efforts, sometimes no one comes forward with a winning ticket before it expires.”

During the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2018, two $50,000 Powerball and one $10,000 Mega Millions winning tickets sold in Nebraska were never claimed. Unclaimed prize money is used to fund prizes in future Nebraska Lottery games.

The mission of the Nebraska Lottery is to generate proceeds for good causes while providing quality entertainment options to Nebraskans. Over $693 million has been raised for the Nebraska Lottery’s beneficiary funds since the Lottery began in 1993. All 93 counties in Nebraska have benefited from projects funded with these Nebraska Lottery proceeds.
