COZAD — A new hardware store is coming to downtown Cozad. Scott Geiser will be opening 222 Hardware this spring.
The store, 222 Hardware, will be part of the True Value Company operated by Geiser, who is a Cozad native and has lived in the area since 1975. His wife Robyn, former executive of the Cozad Development Corporation, now works for Arnold Insurance.
Geiser said 222 will be a traditional hardware store, carrying a wide selection of items. The store will also carry home interior products and feature a paint carousel.
“We will have good items in that area,” Geiser said referring to the paint section.
The location will also be a licensed retailer of Yeti products, the only one in town, Geiser said. Yeti produces outdoor lifestyle products such as ice chests, vacuum sealed drinkware, coolers and other accessories. The store will also feature new seasonal items like many retailers, he said.
Geiser purchased the location, the old Chipper Hall, at 144 E. 8th St. on Jan. 1, 2019 and has been working with True Value to set up the store and fill the shelves. “True Value has been wonderful to work with,” Geiser said, “they have helped with the building layout and the product selection.”
True Value measures the store area and produces different runs which could be implemented, Geiser said. They figure out the exact layout of displays like the paint books and other complimentery displays.
There will be three part-time employees who work at the store along with Geiser, he said.
When asked about the location, Geiser said, “The building was coming up for sale and I thought this would make a wonderful area, the facility as it was would make a great hardware store. Being from here I wanted to go into business for myself, I saw the opportunity and this location was key.”
Geiser said the name, 222 Hardware, comes from Cozad’s mile marker exit number off I-80.
A soft opening for 222 Hardware is planned for March 29 and a grand opening will be held later in the spring, said Geiser.
