COZAD —Demolition work continues on the old grain elevator at 300 W. 2nd Street in Cozad. The owner of the property, Nutrien Ag Solutions, is tearing down the elevators due to the age. The elevator was built on the site in the 1960s.

Customer service representative, Lane Kugler, with Nutrien Ag Solutions’ Cozad location said the elevator had become a liability and was being torn down to make room on that property. The future of the site is being discussed in Nutrien Ag Solutions but demolition of the elevator should be completed by the end of December, barring any interruptions. Nutrien put in a demolition request with the city of Cozad in late summer, Kugler said.

Cozad Building, Zoning and Planning Commissioner Doug Adkisson said Nutrien have built new tanks to the property directly south of the old elevator and are tearing it down for great access to the area. He added the elevator needed to be brought down because it had not been used for some time and had fallen into disrepair.
